US President Donald Trump has announced that the ceasefire with Iran will be extended, stating that American forces will postpone a planned strike to give Tehran more time to present a proposal aimed at ending the conflict. According to Trump, the decision was made on Tuesday following a request from Pakistani mediators. The truce had been due to expire on Wednesday. “I have instructed our military to maintain the blockade and stay fully prepared. The ceasefire will therefore remain in effect until their proposal is submitted and negotiations are brought to a conclusion, one way or another,” Trump wrote on social media. Iran did not immediately respond to the statement. The semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that Tehran’s official position would be announced at a later time. Just hours earlier, Trump had expressed opposition to extending the ceasefire, warning that Iran was running out of time. The shift in stance came amid strong criticism from Iranian officials over the US naval blockade of Iranian ports, raising doubts about Tehran’s participation in talks scheduled to take place in Pakistan on Wednesday.
